What is Fall Magic?

Magic is LGCS’s competitive fastpitch tournament program for players who want to continue developing beyond the spring rec season.

Fall Magic is a shorter season than summer Magic and serves as an important transition season. Roughly half of our players move up into a new age division, introducing them to new teammates, new competition, and new elements of the game. It is a fantastic opportunity for players to:

  • Build confidence & improve softball IQ
  • Sharpen their skills
  • Compete in exciting weekend tournaments
  • Prepare for future Magic seasons
  • Have fun with friends old and new!

Fall Magic is open to returning Magic players, LGCS rec players who want to try Magic for the first time, and players brand new to LGCS. No prior Magic experience is required!

Based on current planning, we expect to have 1–2 teams at 8U, 10U, and 12U.  If you are interested in playing at 14U, please reach out to us at magic@lgcsfastpitch.org

How to Register

Age Divisions & Calendar

Fall Magic uses the USA Softball age calendar, which generally follows the school calendar with an August 31 / September 1 cutoff. Please see the attached age chart for reference.

For the upcoming 2027 season, here is how the age groups break down:

  • 8U: Born Sept 1, 2017 – Aug 31, 2019
  • 10U: Born Sept 1, 2015 – Aug 31, 2017
  • 12U: Born Sept 1, 2013 – Aug 31, 2015
  • 14U: Born Sept 1, 2011 – Aug 31, 2013

Example: A player born Sept 1, 2013 is 12U, while a player born Aug 31, 2013 is 14U.

Unsure which division your player belongs in? Just register anyway and we will help you confirm!

Player Evaluations: Saturday, August 15 

All registered players should attend player evaluations. This helps coaches understand skill sets and ensures teams are organized appropriately.

Location is being finalized and will be shared as soon as it’s locked in!

Arrival Times:

  • 8U: 8:30 AM
  • 10U: 10:00 AM
  • 12U: 11:30 AM
  • 14U: 1:00 PM

Note: Please arrive at the times listed above. Evaluations last approximately 2 hours (pitchers and catchers may stay slightly longer).

What to bring/wear:

  • Fielding glove
  • Batting helmet & bat
  • Cleats (soccer cleats are ok)
  • Softball pants (or athletic pants) & socks
  • What to wear: If your player has a past Magic jersey or sweatshirt with a number, please wear it! If they are new to Magic, welcome! We will have numbered bibs ready for them.

Need to borrow gear or can’t make the evaluation date? Please reach out and we will do our best to accommodate!

Season Expectations:

The Fall Magic season runs from late August through late October or early November.

While fall is a smaller commitment than summer, it is still a competitive program:

  • Practices: Usually 2–3 times per week.
  • Tournaments: Vary by age group (ranging from 1 tournament for younger ages to up to 5 tournaments for older ages).
  • Commitment: We know fall is busy! However, Magic should be a priority. If your player has known attendance conflicts, please note them during registration. Please keep in mind that players who do not consistently attend practices may not play in tournaments.
